That depends on Diablo III.

This is now a race. I liked a lot the grindless GW.
Now that GW is grinded too, I won't mind switching to Diablo III instead.

I'll get the fastest one.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat. I mean I only started playing GW because DII was getting a bit old and GW sounded similar...

I think it isn't a matter of GW2 'comming too late'. Diablo 2 is still one of the highest played "MMO"s (I use the term loosely for that game) around, and it came out -years- ago.

More of a concern, however, is that GW2 will be completely overshadowed by the up and comming releases from Blizzard. SC2 and D3 will be a very, VERY tough thing to play through in terms of getting the game known. I think the problem with GW2 is that they let the community know about it WAY too early, and has given the community very little in terms of what the game will be like, which leads the majority to believe that GW2 is still in the early development stages.

We can hope that they will give us more information on GW2, which I believe they have been hinting at (looking at the recent Dev posts)

Hah, I made the mistake when I actually bought GW. I've found myself more recently disliking PvE. Theres not enough satisfaction involved with playing GW PvE past level 20. PvE needs not grind necessarily, but faster battles and more enemies.

Yeah, I believe that GW2 is going to lose this MMORPG race against D3.

Oh well. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

How can an MMORPG lose to an Action Adventure RPG?

It's not about being late, even though I really, really, want to see some GW2 Material, IMO if GW2 can deliver content better than Diablo 3 or right up there with it..........then i don't mind waiting and I am not talking about copying D3, i am talking about delivering content in the GW universe that is great and refreshing.

I think we all love the game and we are all hating watching it fall into disarray, because of the development of GW2. Well I know I am.

I'd love to see more new fresh content for GW. It may or may not happen.

I still enjoy playing GW. There's not really another game on the current market that interests me.

I will most probably be getting GW2.

I do think ANet announced GW2 a bit too early, without planning any extra content for GW apart from skill balances [though, there are other updates they have planned but need time to implement, which I saw in other thread].

I think for a lot of people GW2 will come too late. But like others have said in this thread, as long as ANet produces a quality product, there will be a whole new mass of players purchasing the game.

I'm looking forward to any new information that ANet blesses us with. Whenever that may be....

Afterthought: I don't understand why people feel they have to get one game or another. I will certainly play Starcraft 2 as well as GW2 (and quite possibly also Diablo III)... I honestly doubt that they will all be releasing at the same time but, either way, why do people feel they have to choose one over the other? It seems absurd.

I agree, and heck, if I only had money for one. I would pick the one that appealed to me most and then get the other one after I get more money in

I will buy and play Diablo 3, but it will be a non-factor for me regarding whether I purchase GW2. Diablo will likely not have the depth GW2 will have. D3 isn't an mmo, i'm doubting it will have organized pvp of any significant sort. It will be fun but shallow fun like 1 and 2 - imo.

There is of course more competition in the mmo market, but as we've seen so far, not everything that gets released is going to stick. Fury and Age of Conan, both suck, the former is dead and the latter is floundering. We'll see about Warhammer if it ever gets done. If the developers take there time and make GW2 a good game rather than rushing it onto the market, there will be a substantial place for it.

I think one of the reasons for people's whining is the expectation that there will be new content every 6 months. Even if people know GW2's far away, they're used to getting new info on a new chapter pretty quickly.

Not only that, but since Anet already had all the codebase and nearly all the textures they needed for GW:EN, they could put together something very quickly indeed. GW is a whole new project, and, although it's built on the same game engine (with major improvements), it requires massive amount of new code. This takes a very long time compared with small content expansions.

The only argument that holds any real value, also suggested by Stuart444... However, I highly doubt these three games (D3, SC2, GW2) are going to be released around the same time.

Look at WoW's Wrath of the Lich King, which people speculated would be a major competitor for GW:EN... They were announced around the same time, GW:EN has been out almost a year already, and it isn't even released yet.

So bullocks on D3, SC2, GW2 competition speculation.

So, I am pretty sure that even if GW2 doesn't come out till sometime in 2010 people will buy it and play it if they liked playing GW.

I would rather play another game or just chill out for a while and let the devs create a great new game then get "more of the same" content in GW1. I want GW2 to be the best it can be, not something slapped together because they were busy creating something new in GW1.

Krat
Same here, it not like you're paying to play. In the mean time I'll just go play an other game(and there's enough to keep me busy till 2015!)

The saying " patience is a virtue " comes to mind. Some can be, some refuse to be and some simply just aren't patient. Though you can't blame people for wanting to know about Guild Wars 2. It's a long wait and Eye of the North was way too short. Though I am positive that whenever Arenanet is ready to show and release, Guild Wars 2 will be great.

Seems like they may as well market the game as "Guild Wars", as most everyone will probably have forgotten about the current series by the time it comes out.

The wait is probably not that long, considering how long they've had the idea and have been working on it. It just feels really stupidly long now because they haven't done anything to show us that anything is getting done.

Wink

i have destroyed gw1 beyond oblivion. the only thing left is my pvp titles but the bad thing is, its the worst grind i have ever seen on a video game.

i beg that anet make it more achievable to progress through the ranks...

anet have reached and maybe even surpassed their expectations for gw1 and found that there are things that they could have done better and things that they wanted to do but never for various reasons. i myself would have said that it is time for gw2 and i have no problem waiting for it to be released although my playstation 7 may take precedance over gw2 i will still give it a try :P

im ageing (23yo) and im progressing my career nicely but i will always want to play my video games...i refuse to hang up my "RPG destroying gloves" as its one of those little things in life where you can have fun and take your mind off ordinary life and the associated stresses.

be patient folks..3 years is only 3 years (oh, forgot to say i predict the game will be out Q2 2011) expect the worse and hope for the best.
